Tok-Hui Yeap

Personality:

Tok-Hui’s (pronounced: Took Who-ui) patients would describe her as having a disarming sense of humor which helps her easily bond with children of all ages. She's kind, calm, and gentle when working with children and families. She strives to create personalized practical nutrition care for children & caregivers she works with.

Background:

Tok-Hui was born and raised in Malaysia and is fluent in 4 languages (English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Bahasa Malaysia). She came to the United States to pursue her Bachelor's degree in nutrition and dietetics at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and became an RD in 2005. She's been working in acute care in-patient pediatric unit and outpatient settings since 2010 and eventually obtained her Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition in 2016 with a focus on neurodivergent populations, particularly in Autistic and ADHD children.

Counseling Philosophy:

Tok-Hui believes that every child's voice should be heard. She listens to children's opinions and respects their autonomy. She strives to find a balance between child-led and parent-led nutrition approaches so that children can thrive yet at the same time parents feel that they still have some control. Tok-Hui believes eating is a learned behavior where we can support and guide children to eat and enjoy eating. She is also diet neutral as there's no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to children's health. Her recommendations are evidence-based but also value functional approaches that have worked through lived-in experiences.
